USAID Reducing Pollution addresses multiple sources of environmental pollution in targeted areas by facilitating a portfolio of Collective Impact Initiatives led by backbone organizations that provide technical and financial support for multiple local stakeholders. The current projects focus on reducing air pollution, plastic waste management, water conservation and other environmental health issues. By empowering local actors to take the lead in identifying and addressing environmental challenges, USAID/Vietnam advances locally-owned development and contributes to Vietnam's ownership of its prosperity, quality of life and sustainable, green economic growth. USAID/Vietnam fosters collective action by all local community members and actors (Government of Vietnam, the private sector, social organizations, and citizens) to address environmental pollution issues, improve environmental management, and become responsible for solving their own environmental health issues. Increasing public interest in environmental quality has led the Government of Vietnam (GVN) to release National Action Plans related to air quality, water conservation, and plastic waste pollution, demonstrating the country’s commitment to ensuring broad cooperation to address environmental pollution challenges. Along with the country’s rapid social and economic development, Vietnam faces a series of environmental pollution challenges largely spurred by agriculture, transportation, and industrial production.
