![]() ![]() I am not sure how to upload a picture on to this forum? On the right shoulder it says ' Jagdglas', underneath ' Vergr-7 1/2. In answer to your questions, I would advise as follows:- Looking at the eyepieces, on the left shoulder it says 'Carl Zeiss Jena' in cursive script. In any case, I would not buy absolutely a sloping-shoulder for $ 3500, even if it was just out of the factory. As for the venal value of binoculars, I do not want to say anything because everything depends on the demand and supply, and mainly on how much the collector is willing to spend on having the object. ![]() What's the serial number?Ībout the state of conservation, it is not too difficult to find Zeiss binoculars of that era in excellent condition (especially the civil ones) Sometimes they were used very little. To be able to say something more about your sloping-shoulder it would take a picture, or at least the exact inscriptions on the left and right on the prism plates. ![]() I would be grateful for any advice from members including Mr Antoniades, whom I believe is on this forum? Meanwhile, welcome to the forum David. The serial numbers were up to about 30,600 by 1900, and sales soon skyrocketed to over serial number 200,000 by 1910, then by 1914 their serial numbers approached 500,000. By the beginning of World War I Zeiss had developed a total of about fifty-nine models of hand held binocular for consumer and military use. With the information from that means they were produced between 1928-1929 if I understand the serial number concept. Hi, Just got a pair of Carl Zeiss Jena 6X30 with serial number 1484950. There appear to be a pair of similar binoculars currently offered on Ebay ( from Poland ) for $3500? My first problem was they appear to be in such wonderful condition for their age, I could not believe they were so old, almost like they had never been used, just taken in and out of the case from time to time? Secondly, from what I could learn on the internet, they are pre 1905 as the logo on the binoculars is written in 'cursive' script? I found a study carried out by Thomas Antoniades and according to his Table No.ģ the last serial number for this series ( Jagdglas 7.5 ) should be 8882? My pair carry a higher number? I understand that, if genuine, they could be quite valuable. I did a little research on them and I am not sure what I have got so I joined this forum to pick a few brains and try and ascertain when they were actually made and what I should do with them. Hello, My name is David Harrison and I have inherited what appear to be an old pair of ' bent shoulder ' binoculars. ![]()
